Unlike my usual process of creating and then giving names to the creations, many of these paintings had their inscriptions spoken over them before their process began. These titles are words that have been spoken to me, writings, sayings I kept in remembrance, or reflective thoughts from recent and this current season of life. I circled back to my foundation in collage making and graphic design with textured overlays and a few bold visual boundaries within certain compositions that bring a sense of surety to the usual "happenstance" of creating.
With bold strokes of charcoal, saturated washes of color, and stark contrasts in design, I felt these words were in need of a visual story to accompany them, one where the viewer can ask and seek their own interpersonal questions and truths within.

Your Eyes Remind Me Of Home : This was spoken to me by a stranger, a new acquaintance, on East 6th Street. Everyone has their own definition of "home", but in an ideal world, what could that mean to you? That you would carry a glimpse of "home" within you. A home so bright on a hill that others can't help but see it. How would you live and love? How would you carry yourself?
To Give Space *
Acrylic, charcoal, graphite, pastel on 48” x 60” canvas
To Give Space : There were many evolutions to this painting until I felt the urge to abandon all other directions and lean into its present title. As a deep process thinker, there's a great sense of safety when in the presence of someone who is aware enough to leave room in conversation for rumination, process, patience. I have often questioned whether I give that same space to God...
